HYDRO-SEEDING You’ve seen it before along roadsides; but you just may not have put your finger on it.  Hydro seeding has been around for years especially in the area of erosion control.  But now, the residential application of hydro seeding is skyrocketing because home owners are seeing the value of the economical installation costs and the incredible results.  Hydro-Seeding is a process of seeding an area with a combination of water, mulch, fertilizer and a tackifier (bonding agent).  The materials are mixed in a large tank and then sprayed onto a prepared surface to create the beginnings of a beautiful weed free lawn, comparable to sod. BENEFITS There are reasons hydro seeding works so well. The seed is suspended in a nutrient rich slurry. The contact of the seed with the water in the machine triggers the germination cycle. The mulch layer seals in the moisture, and holds the soil in place. The seed is at an ideal depth for good results and the conditions are right to produce a lush green lawn in very short time.  The results are incredible as the grass will start growing in just 5-7 days.  In 2 weeks you will have grass, and in 4 weeks – start dragging out the mower for a sod quality lawn. Because the combination of materials is mixed on site, a customization of seed, fertilizer and bonding agents can be determined to give you the best lawn possible for your soil, location and situation.  This type of application also allows for severely sloped or native areas to be seeded which would not otherwise be suitable for sod. You cannot argue the cost savings.  The amount of area needing to be seeded will determine your overall savings over sod.  However, the approximate cost of a hydro seeded lawn is about 1/3 the cost of a sod lawn.
